8 Tips on Waking Up With Greater Ease

Are you one of those people who wishes they could wake up early and have a relaxing morning ritual only to press the snooze button and find that entire dream crashing down. Well, you're not alone, and the good news is that for all those who have a hard time, there are small changes you can incorporate into your routine to help make waking up easier and hopefully more enjoyable. Read on to learn 8 tips that you can try!

1. Place Your Alarm Strategically

One of the biggest obstacle to getting up is that easy-to-press snooze button that immediately gives you the relief from your blaring alarm and rewards you with a few extra minutes of silence. However, in case you don't know it already, getting those extra few minutes of sleep isn't really helping you feel less tired. So, instead of automatically hitting the snooze button for the next ten times, place your alarm somewhere out of reach, which forces you to get up. Also, when you get up immediately after your alarm sounds, this can help train your body's internal clock to automatically wake up and feel alert at the same time each day. In addition, for those who absolutely hate being rudely awakened by a heart-wrenching sound, opt for something more soothing or a sound that gradually gets louder so that it slowly eases you awake instead.

2. Let There Be Light

If you have a window in your room, another great way to help gently wake you up is to leave the curtains open. If you don't have a window in the room you sleep in, try to get some natural light from another room or step outside for a bit. The natural light helps get your brain going and keeps your body clock in check. If the weather outside is cloudy & gloomy, turn on your lights. For some, a light-up alarm clock is a great aid in waking up, especially during the cold winter seasons, and may even help lift your mood. Win-Win!

3. Reward Yourself

To resist the urge of just snuggling in those warm sheets, plan something in the morning that you can look forward to. It could be a good read that you simply can't wait to start. Or, it can be that delicious pastry you bought that you are dying to take a bite of. Whatever it is that gets you excited to get up out of bed, make it a part of your next day morning routine!

4. Workout Session

Schedule a short 10-15 minute workout session in the morning! It can be as simple as a walk around the block or jumping jacks, whatever it is that will get your blood pumping. You will definitely feel a lot more alert and more energized throughout the day. In addition, working out first thing in the morning can help you fall asleep more easily during the evening.

5. Fuel Your Body

Not a breakfast person? Well, even if you don't feel like eating, it's good to try to have a small morning meal anyways. Why? Just an egg or cup of yogurt can help give your body the energy it needs to get it moving. Having breakfast can also help you to focus better and feel more alert.

6. Shut the Lights at Bedtime

Make sure to dim the lights before bed as bright lights at night can reduce your melatonin levels, a hormone that helps you feel sleepy. And, it's not just the light fixtures that can affect your sleep cycle. Your phone, computer, tablet, or television screen can also affect your sleep and slow down your body's melatonin production. So try to avoid using any electronic devices and start dimming the lights in your room at least an hour before you plan to sleep.

7. Avoid Alcohol

Although drinking alcoholic beverages may make you feel sleepy, it actually makes it hard to stay asleep or get a good night's rest. In addition, you may feel a bit groggy in the morning too! If you really want to have a drink in the evening after a long, busy day at work, try to get that drink in at least 2-3 hours before you sleep.

8. Natural Supplements

Another great way to help you wake up refreshed and more alert is to take natural supplements. Speak with your primary doctor for a melatonin or magnesium supplement that works for you. We recommend trying FarmHaven Magnesium as it includes Magnesium Glycinate which provides benefits for sleep, relaxation, and mood, just what one needs to feel well rested and be able to wake up easily the next morning.

We hope that the tips in this article helps you wake up with more ease!
